Boarding or daycare for your dog in Victor

The difference comes down to whether your dog sleeps at the kennel tonight, and the day count is simpler than it looks.

Boarding or daycare for your dog in Victor

Sooner or later every dog owner in Teton Valley asks the same thing: do I need boarding, or is daycare enough? At K9 Mountain Resorts the answer comes down to one question. Does your dog sleep here tonight? Daycare is for dogs who go home with you at pick-up time. Boarding is for dogs who stay overnight. Daycare is $35, boarding is $45 per day, and the way days get counted is simple once you see it laid out.

What each one actually is

Daycare is a day of company. You drop your dog off in the morning, they spend the day with other dogs and the people running the place, and you pick them up in the evening. Drop-off is 9 to 11 AM and pick-up is 5 to 7 PM.

Boarding is a stay. Your dog sleeps at K9 Mountain Resorts while you're away, for one night or for longer. The kennel sits one mile north of Victor at 7313 South Highway 33. Look for the white fence.

Both use the same property and the same care. Dogs get rotated group playtime, fresh water all the time, and an individual locker for their things. Staff are on location 24/7. The real difference is how the day ends: with you at the door, or with soft nightlights and some quiet music.

How the day count works

This is the part people ask about most, so here it is the way K9MR states it: check-in morning counts as 1 day, and check-out night counts as 1 day. What matters is when you arrive and when you leave, not how many calendar dates your trip happens to touch.

Two examples make it concrete.

  • Drop off in the morning and pick up at the end of day two. That's 2 days, so $90.
  • Drop off in the evening and pick up the next morning. That's about 1 day, so $45.

Daycare has one wrinkle worth knowing. If your dog isn't picked up the same day and ends up staying the night, the boarding rate applies instead, either $45 or $90 depending on when you pick up. If your plans might run late, book it as boarding from the start so the bill matches the plan.

Payment is due when services are complete, and a card on file is required for every booking.

Which dogs suit daycare

Daycare fits the dog with energy to burn and a long day at home alone. If you work in Jackson or Driggs and your dog spends nine hours waiting by the door, a day with other dogs gives them something to do besides wait. Young dogs, social dogs, and dogs who get bored and start redecorating the couch tend to do well with it.

Daycare is also a good first step for a dog who has never spent a night away from home. A few daycare days let them learn the place, the people, and the pack before they ever sleep there, and that usually makes the first overnight much easier on them.

Which dogs suit boarding

Boarding is for trips, of course, but it's also for dogs who do better with a steady routine than with a rotating cast of house sitters. The rooms are climate controlled, and the facility runs an air purification system. Meals can be set up your way, since K9MR offers custom mealtimes and treats, so tell Tracy what the bowl looks like at home.

Some dogs settle better in a place with a routine and people on site around the clock than at home alone with a visitor dropping in twice a day. Playmates at K9MR are vaccinated too, which matters to a lot of owners.

Picking between them

A few plain questions sort out most cases. How long are you gone? Does your dog sleep well away from home? Could your pick-up slip past the end of the day? One night or more means boarding. A day out and a night in your own bed means daycare.

Timing matters too. K9MR is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 7 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, and it's closed Sunday. If your trip starts or ends on a weekend, ask Tracy what works before you book flights or ski days around it.

Book early, and do the first steps early

Boarding is quite often full, so text Tracy at (208) 607-9509 for availability before you lock in travel plans. A new dog also has a few steps to finish before the first visit: an account, a meet and greet, and a read of the policies. It's smart to get those done well ahead of your dates instead of the week of the trip.

Not sure which one fits your dog? Text Tracy at (208) 607-9509 or bring it up at the meet and greet, and he'll help you sort it out.
